When your are working on the trailing edge you can bend the elevon down so you can get the covering to stick right up to the edge of the hinge line without sticking to the elevon itself. I usually tack it on four sides and work my way around pulling the covering tight as I go. Before starting you might want to cover the ends of the elevons. I'll be posting some pictures when I finish the hinges in a day or so.įor your first time I would do the left and right side separately. I'm going to need to use a 600 mAh battery in the nose left of the centered fuel tank in order to get the CG at the spar and to offset the tuned pipe being on the other side of the fuse for the lateral balance. Last nite, I made the final decisions on where the fuel tank, battery and throttle servo will be placed in order to achieve the correct CG by putting the gear and the engine on its mount and the elevons and tail fins in the rear. I'm guessing that this will make the job much more accurate and not to mention "way less" time consuming. When you get to the elevon when covering the wing just deflect the elevon down and work the covering deep in the hinge line with your iron.

I found it to actually be quicker and look better plus the hinge line is already sealed. I can understand your thinking that covering the wing and elevons with one piece would be a pain but it actually works pretty good. Over beveling the leading edge of a control surface gets many into trouble. The leading edge of the control surface should be at least as thick as the trailing of the wing or you are inviting flutter. The Diamond Dust is intended to be set up the same way and it actually can help prevent flutter.
